It had been half a year since Qiao Lan left the Qiao family’s house. In this span of time, other than when the class teacher had said that Mother Qiao had contacted her once, Qiao Lan and Qiao family had had no contact.

She usually stayed in a dormitory, but on weekends, Aunt Chen would call her to eat at home.

It was currently the weekend again, and Bai Yu, who had a good relationship with Qiao Lan in the dormitory, asked her casually, “Are you going home?”

“Yes,” actually, she was going to Tan Mo’s house .

Bai Yu quickly packed up her things, “Let’s go to my house next week, my mother said she want to see you.”

“What did you say to your mother?”

Bai Yu blinked, “I just said that the girl in the upper bunk is the best-looking girl in the whole grade.”

Qiao Lan almost spit out, “Ah, don’t say that, I get scared whenever I hear that.”

“What are you afraid of, I’m telling you the truth,” Bai Yu said. “I’m leaving first, remember to go home and tell your parents that you will go to my house next week.”

“Got it,” Qiao Lan waved her hand and went back to packing her school bags and soon she was at the school gate. There, Uncle Chen and Tan Mo were already waiting for her in the car.

After getting on the bus, Uncle Chen and Qiao Lan chatted, Tan Mo listened to them quietly as usual. After a while, Qiao Lan remembered Bai Yu’s invitation, turned around and said to Tan Mo and Chen Bo, “I almost forgot, something will happen next week. I won’t come here.”

“What’s the matter?” Tan Mo turned his head to ask her.

Uncle Chen also glanced at Qiao Lan in the rearview mirror, “Your parents called?”

“That’s not it,” Qiao Lan said, “My roommate said that she wanted me to come to her house next week.”

“Ah, so that’s it.” Uncle Chen nodded, “Very good, you young people should make more friends.”

Tan Mo’s hand that was hidden unnaturally clenched, he  silently looked at the scenery passing by through the car window, no one knew what he was thinking.

Every week when Qiao Lan comes Aunt Chen would prepare lots of food. After Qiao Lan finished eating, she went to help Aunt Chen wash the dishes but Aunt Chen kicked her out and told her to go talk to Tan Mo.

Qiao Lan smiled as she came out of the kitchen, and when she found Tan Mo, she saw that Tan Mo was reading again.

Qiao Lan sat next to him and looked at him for a long time, before saying, “Tan Mo, sometimes you can do other things than read books. TV series and movies are much more intuitive than reading books, in them you can specifically see character emotions.”

Tan Mo closed the book and said in a light tone, “What are you watching?”

Qiao Lan was just commenting, but she didn’t expect Tan Mo to adopt it so quickly. After thinking about it, she said, “I think you would be very interested in science fiction movies. But I suggest watching some emotional movies appropriately.”

Love, family, friendship, etc., all would do.

“I can’t think of the specifics for a while. I can find them online when I have time. Those classic movies are all very good.”

Tan Mo took out his mobile phone and tapped a few times and searched out a bunch of film titles. Various world famous films, The Legend of 1900, Titanic, Edward Scissorhands, etc.

So on that day, Qiao Lan sat in the living room with Tan Mo and Aunt Chen, and watched The Legend of 1900,

Watching a movie is a process, and the main purpose was to let Tan Mo perceive the feelings that the movie wanted to express. The pianist’s love for music and the innocence of the things he loves is born in the big ship, and it went down with the big ship and into the endless ocean.

Aunt Chen’s eyes were hazy with tears, and Uncle Chen kept sighing, only Tan Mo was as cold as ever.

After the final shipwreck, Qiao Lan asked Tan Mo if he knew why the pianist did not choose to disembark. Tan Mo still stared at the screen, but gave an accurate answer.

He could speak of innocence and freedom, which made Qiao Lan very happy.

But after seeing the final outcome of the movie, there was still no fluctuation in his heart, which made Qiao Lan inevitably disappointed.

Qiao Lan let out a sigh of relief and comforted herself that one couldn’t eat a fat man in one bite. Everything has to be done slowly. It was already very good to be able to feel the emotions that the pianist was yearning for, and the emotions that the audience should have could be slowly improved upon.

“In the future, if I have time, I can find more movies for you. If I am not here, then you can find film reviews to compare the difference between yourself and others after watching it.”

Tan Mo subconsciously wanted to ask where she went when she was not here. But suddenly remembered that Qiao Lan would go to her roommate’s house next week, and he pressed her lips again and didn’t say anything.

While waiting to return to school next week, the approach of eleventh makes the students become restless again.

Except for the 11th holiday, what made everyone more excited was the three days before the holiday. In those three days the school was preparing to launch a three-day track and field sports meeting.

What does a sports meet represent? It meant that you don’t need to get up early or go to class. You could freely bring your mobile phone and hang with your friends.

In the days leading up the sports meet the sports committee would stand on the podium to count the students who signed up for the sports meet. The class teacher would stand aside for reference at any time.

Chen Yaoyang and Hao Ying like to play basketball. Unfortunately, the school launched a track and field sports meeting, which had nothing to do with basketball so both of them were disappointed. The head teacher stared at the list for a long time, and then looked around in the class. The names of five or six tall boys, including Chen Yaoyang and Hao Ying were called out.

Hao Ying, Chen Yaoyang and other sports committee members looked at each other for a while before the former relented. In the end, Hao Ying g chose to throw the discus and Chen Yaoyan chose the long jump. After them several people also chose an activity to do.

After the class teacher arranged for the boys, he began to arrange the girls. Qiao Lan had some not-so-good luck, and she was called by the class teacher in the next moment.

“Qiao Lan, I heard that you are running every night. Why don’t you do the 800-meter relay.”

Qiao Lan: ….

All boys and girls in the class looked at Qiao Lan and they saw the most miserable expression they had ever seen her have.

Qiao Lan sighed, she does run around the playground several times every night. She just doesn’t want to participate in the 800-meter relay. But there were still not enough people that signed up.

There were too few girls in science classes.

After the registration was over, the head teacher called Qiao Lan again and gave her a job.

On the day of the sports meeting, each class had to walk in a square formation. Each class selected a girl to walk in front and hold a sign. The head teacher did not let everyone choose, and directly ordered Qiao Lan. After the order was over, several boys cheered loudly.

There was no other reason, because the person holding the sign has fixed clothes.

Some girls in the class were envious, but no one refuted the opinion of the class teacher. It was hard to think of a way to oppose Qiao Lan, who was top-notch in looks and was tall.

Like this, a class session passed again. After class, some classmates walked by and laughed casually with Qiao Lan. Qiao Lan waited for them to leave before turning around and asked Tan Mo, “Will you come during the Games?”

Tan Mo usually did not come to study at night, and the possibility of him not coming to the sports meeting was almost 100%.

Tan Mo kept the pen in his hand and said, “No.”

He couldn’t participate in the games or activities at all, and the two games had nothing to do with him.

Qiao Lan had guessed that this would be his answer a long time ago, but she was still a little disappointed. She wanted Tan Mo to come into contact with everyone, but on the other hand, seeing other people walking fast on the field would torment Tan Mo even more.

Thinking about it this way, Qiao Lan felt that Tan Mo might as well stay at home, read a book and watch a movie.

So the topic ended here. Qiao Lan sighed as she stretched her arms across the table. She still wanted to persuade Tan Mo to go for treatment soon. The nerves on Tan Mo’s leg were still working, but it may be really difficult to save it if he continued to drag it on for a long time. .

But she didn’t dare to say it.

Uncle Chen said that the scar on Tan Mo’s leg was because they forced Tan Mo to receive treatment and Tan Mo stabbed himself because of it.

In the evening, she took Bai Yu and went to do laps. After studying in the morning, Tan Mo brought the fruits cut by Aunt Chen to Qiao Lan.

Qiao Lan handed the sweet fruits to Tan Mo as usual, and listened to Tan Mo’s daily lectures while eating.

Qiao Lan remembered how she had felt when Hao Ying had come looking for her to help with problems recently, and suddenly asked Tan Mo, “Tan Mo, would you feel annoyed if you talk to me like this every day?”

Tan Mo raised his head, his eyes fixedly looking at her. “Why do you ask?”

Qiao Lan glanced to the left and right, then approached Tan Mo in a voice that only two people could hear, “Because when Hao Ying asked me questions every day, I was a little annoyed.”

Tan Mo was startled, and then suddenly smiled.

The sun was lazily reflected on Tan Mo, and the boy’s cold facial features were dazzling under his smile.

Xiang Xiaohan, who was sitting behind Qiao Lan and Tan Mo, couldn’t help but remember the time she saw Tan Mo on the first day in class.

That day he was also reflected in the early morning light, and his eyes were curved when he smiled. At that time she was shocked by the youth’s exquisite face, and was stunned.

She had such divine luck to be able to sit behind Tan Mo and Qiao Lan.

But nearly a month has passed, Tan Mo never said a word to her, even if she took the initiative to greet Tan Mo, Tan Mo did not respond at all, let alone smiled at her.

Xiang Xiaohan suddenly felt a little ironic.

She was not as good as Qiao Lan in grades nor she is not as good-looking as she is, everyone else thought the same. But Tan Mo didn’t have any qualifications to think that way.

Sometimes Xiang Xiaohan wanted to speak directly to him, but every time she saw Tan Mo’s gentleness and patience when facing Qiao Lan, all of her dissatisfaction suddenly changed.

Just now, Tan Mo smiled at Qiao Lan again. Xiang Xiaohan bit his lip and wiped the complex expressions on her face. Her voice sounded natural and cheerful, “Tan Mo, you give Qiao Lan lessons every day. Can you also help me if you have time?”

Qiao Lan glanced at Tan Mo, the smile on Tan Mo’s face was completely clean in an instant, and he glanced at Xiang Xiaohan coldly.

Xiang Xiaohan was pinned by Tan Mo’s unconcealed icy gaze on the spot, and the smile on her face suddenly became stiff.

“No time.” Tan Mo said, then turned his head to focus on Qiao Lan again.

Xiang Xiaohan hurriedly looked around and saw that someone had already looked over, and grabbed the corner of her clothes awkwardly.

Yu Guang only caught a glimpse of Tan Mo talking with Qiao Lan. Xiang Xiaohan felt very aggrieved. Tan Mo didn’t have time because all of his time was spent on Qiao Lan.

But why is Tan Mo so good to Qiao Lan? From what she heard in their first year of high school Qiao Lan would always take care of Tan Mo, so he thought that she was very good,

But it’s really just that.

After all, Qiao Lan was so pretty. Even boys like Hao Ying were interested in her. Would Tan Mo have such thoughts?

But how dare a person like him have ideas about Qiao Lan?

Xiang Xiaohan shuddered and then looked up at Qiao Lan and Tan Mo, and when she thought about what had just crossed her mind, there was a burst of strangeness in her heart.

  4. So she’s jealous because FL is prettier and smarter than her. She only wants ML attention to feel special and because he’s handsome when he smiles. Otherwise she views him as defective. Basically she’s got the character depth of shallow puddle. There’s always these kinds of characters in CN stories. Is it a trope or does the face-obsessed culture tend to produce shallow people who only care about outward appearances?

  5. Thank you for the chapter ❤ I wonder if Xiang Xiaohan's thinking can be straightened. I don't think she's rotten to the core – just confused and in need of sorting out her priorities. It'd be a pity if she turned out to be a two-dimensional cannon fodder…

  7. It’s interesting how you translated this sentence “that one couldn’t eat a fat man in one bite.” it must be 一口吃不成胖子 yī kǒu chībuchéng pàngzi? Usually they translate like that “you can’t get fat on one mouthful”. Or just translate the idea of the chengyu.
    I like your work.
    Thanks for the update

  8. I think it should state “October 1st” holiday rather than 11th holiday. October 1st is National Day is China and the whole nation takes a week off, kind of like golden week in Japan.
