Jiang Yumo and Duan Ye became acquainted in junior high school, and both of them received special attention from their teacher. Each class had two special seats located on either side of the podium. Jiang Yumo was given the honor of sitting in one of these seats mainly because her uncle was the head teacher. She had been very popular since she was a child and could get along with anyone. Some classmates would pass notes to her during class, while others would strike up a conversation with her. Her uncle had the foresight to seat her on the left side of the podium and leave her without a desk mate, knowing that no student would pass notes to her during class as she was under the nose of the teacher.

Duan Ye sat in the lower right seat next to the podium. He was considered a “bad student” by the teacher, and his family members often came to the school to take care of him. The teacher allowed Duan Ye to sit in that seat and arranged it so he could keep an eye on him. During their middle school years, a podium separated Jiang Yumo and Duan Ye.

At that time, if Uncle Jiang knew that this arrangement would go on to start a “relationship” between the two, he would definitely have beaten his chest in anger.

From the first to the third year of junior high school, Duan Ye fell in love with Jiang Yumo, which wasn’t unusual in the eyes of their classmates. Jiang Yumo had a good personality and could get along with anyone. She exuded warmth and happiness and was outgoing and cheerful. Her laughter was magical, and it was also very soft. Even when Duan Ye was lying on his desk to catch up on sleep, he could always hear her laughter. Unknowingly, it seeped into his ears and penetrated into his heart.

Girls with good looks were very popular, and girls with both beauty and personality were almost invincible.

Guys liked her, and so did girls.

And Duan Ye liked her too.

After the high school entrance examination, Duan Ye confessed his feelings to Jiang Yumo, but she rejected him. Of course, to her, being liked by Duan Ye was not a shocking thing as she had received confessions from many people before.

Jiang Yumo went to the Fifth High School, and Duan Ye followed suit, but they were not in the same class. However, from the first day of military training in the first year of high school, everyone knew that Duan Ye, who appeared to be fierce, had a crush on Jiang Yumo. Duan Ye never concealed his affection, and he was still good at fighting. The sophomores and seniors were not used to him, and they would ask him to fight and he would beat them until their noses were bruised and their faces swollen. By the end of military training, most people in the fifth middle school knew his name – Duan Ye.

Duan Ye became famous in high school, and so did Jiang Yumo.

Jiang Yumo had a good relationship with everyone, so naturally, she wouldn’t be any different to Duan Ye, her old classmate.

After the first confession was rejected, Duan Ye didn’t say anything else about it, but he still liked Jiang Yumo. The relationship between the two remained the same, and no one broke through the paper window between them.

Someone had once asked Duan Ye if he wanted to arrange a grand confession for Jiang Yumo, but he refused after hesitating for a long time. He had already confessed before and it was rejected. But now, he liked her even more, and yet his hands were tied. He didn’t have the courage to confess to her like in the beginning, Jiang Yumo, I like you. Those words that had seemed so easy were suddenly so difficult to say.

Jiang Yumo gaped at the Haagen-Dazs inside the thermos, stunned.

Noticing her expression, Duan Ye chuckled. “Go ahead and eat it. I was afraid it would melt before I picked you up this afternoon.” But she didn’t move.

He took out the ice cream, opened the lid, and handed her the wooden spoon. “Give it a try and see how it compares to Lu Xue’s.”

Pausing, he continued, “I wanted to buy a few more, but the clerk said that they were reserved and only a few were left, and the others weren’t your favorite flavor.”

At seventeen, Jiang Yumo wasn’t particularly mature, nor was she very intelligent.

So at that moment, she was simply at a loss and couldn’t think about anything.

But when she heard Duan Ye’s voice, she blinked, feeling a lump in her throat. She wanted to cry but held it back. She wanted to tell him, “Duan Ye, what do you think our future will be like?”

But what kind of future could high school students really plan for?

“What’s wrong?” Duan Ye noticed the change in her expression.

Jiang Yumo shook her head. “I had a nightmare and didn’t sleep well.”

Duan Ye smiled.

He wasn’t someone who smiled often.

He didn’t ask what the dream was about. Instead, he looked up at the sky and squinted his eyes. “You haven’t eaten yet. I’m guessing your dad will be back soon.” Duan Ye had made a mental note of Father Jiang’s departure time and only dared to come over after figuring it out.

“Mmm.”

Duan Ye glanced at her. His palms felt a little hot, perhaps due to the weather. “So, when should I pick you up?”

Their plans for the future, as high school students, weren’t particularly grand.

“Four or five o’clock,” Jiang Yumo replied. “Yan Qing and the others are coming over.”

Duan Ye nodded.

The sun was shining brightly, and Jiang Yumo basked in its warmth as she ran home with the ice cream.

Duan Ye stood outside for a while, then rode his motorcycle away.

His birth month was July, and he obtained his motorcycle license as soon as he turned 18.

The sound of the motorcycle was a bit loud, and the wind made Duan Ye’s clothes flutter. A shallow scar at the corner of his eye made him look fierce and menacing, but the corners of his lips turned up, softening the effect.
